Saturday 3rd October Bore Place, Bowzell’s Lane, Chiddingstone Hazel Layering. We will be layering Hazel as part of the Bore Place Wodland Day. OS 188 Grid Ref 505490. Meet at Bore Place car park over the cattle grid on the right at the end of the entrance lane.
The task programme for Autumn 2009 is still being developed, with the exception of 18th October which is fixed. The following dates are fixed and the venues will be confirmed and added to the website as soon as Sue has finalised them.
Sunday 18th October Chiddingston Reserve - Kent Wildlife Trust. Pond Clearance. Leader Pete Flower. The site is an old brick works which is now established woodland. The task is to clear a pond to improve the quality of the habitat. OS 188 Grid Ref 511468. Meet at yard next to Brickyard Cottage, 1 mile west of Penshurst railway station on north side of the B2027.
Sunday 25th October OPTIONAL TASK For anyone keen to revisit Broadwater Warren before January 2010.
A relatively recently acquired RSPB site of 180 hectares of woodland south of Tunbridge Wells, west of the A26. Under a ten-year management plan to restore conifer plantation to much needed and now very rare heathland. Work will involve birch thinning and removing small conifers in a boggy area full of high tussocky grass and heather. Stout footwear is essential as the terrain is challenging (not to mention the unexploded ordnance)

Sunday 1st November NEW SITE at Chiddingstone Castle A new site but familiar faces, as Lynne and Peter Flower strive to increase the biodiversity of an immature woodland plantation, as part of a newly established educational programme at Chiddingstone Castle. Plenty of habitat-creating opportunities and some tree felling for bow saw enthusiasts.
The Castle is well sign-posted but don’t be put off by a barrier just before the car parking area. Call A1 for assistance on the key pad.

Sunday 13th December Tudeley RSPB site Hazel coppicing with RSPB volunteers led by new warden Mathew Allen. Meet in the RSPB car park off Dislingbury (otherwise known as Half Moon) Lane off A21 by Shell Garage near Pembury.
