Autumn 2009 Task Programme

Sunday 11th  January     Bough Beech Reservoir (KWT), near Chiddingstone
Leaders Lynne and Pete Flower.   Repairing fence in old orchard and clearing/burning alders.  Bonfire sausages on offer plus opportunity to bake potatoes (if you bring them along!)

Sunday 25th  January    Bore Place,  Bowzell’s Lane,  Chiddingstone
Restoring willow patch behind the old brickworks.  Finish the willow harvesting started in Dec and prune overgrown apple trees and cobnuts in the area.

Sunday 8th February     Bough Beech Reservoir(KWT), nr Chiddingstone
Leaders Lynne and Pete Flower.   Winter pruning the old apple orchard and other associated tasks .   Small step ladders and secateurs may be useful, if you are able to bring any along.
Meet in the Visitor Centre car park north of the reservoir causeway on the west side of Winkhurst Green Rd, Bough Beech. OS188 Grid Ref 495493

Sunday 8th March    Broadwater Warren, Tunbridge Wells
A site newly acquired in 2007 by the RSPB - 180 hectares of woodland, west of the A26. Currently undergoing a ten-year management plan to restore conifer plantation to heathland.
The task will involve birch thinning and removing small conifers in a boggy area full of high tussocky grass and heather. Stout footwear is recommended .

Sunday 22nd March    Tudeley RSPB Reserve
Hazel Copicing to improve  habitat.
Meet at OS 188 Grid Ref 617433, the main Tudeley RSPB car park on Dislingbury Rd, off A21 by Fairthorne garage. 

Sunday 5th April     St Julian’s Country Club, Sevenoaks.
Continuing our attack on cherry laurel and rhododendron on this steeply wooded site.
Free delicious lunch available from the restaurant.
OS 188 Grid Ref 547528. Heading south on A225 out of Sevenoaks, after approx 1 mile from town centre just after brow of hill, take left turn towards Knole Park. St Julian’s signposted on right after 0.75 mile. Meet part way down the driveway in a small car park on the right.

Constructing steps on a nature trail. Stout footwear is recommended .

Sunday 7th June    Birchwood, Bidborough Ridge.
Thinning holly and silverbirch in an area of woodland maintained for the local community.
Meet at public footpath entrance to Birchwood on St Lawrence Ave off Woodland Way, Bidborough.  OS188  Grid Ref 568434.

Sunday 5th July    Bough Beech Visitors Centre near Chiddingstone
Summer pruning in the orchard and hay making. Small step ladders and secateurs may be useful if you are able to bring any. BBQ to follow, after the task at 4-5pm friends and partners welcome please bring contributions (food and drink) contact Sue for details.

Not exactly a task but volunteers are welcome to add their support by helping to man a display of our activities on a stand. Tools and materials will be available to make bird and bat boxes for sale. Please get in touch if you are able to brings tools or a workmate..
